Almost a year after the Village of Addison established the Addison Historical District, it moved two historic structures to this lot. The William Balzer residence and coach house behind it were moved from their original location at 127 East Lake Street in Addison in late March, 1999.   The home of William Balzer, a tombstone carver, was built in 1892.  The Coach House behind it was built in 1932, and the west end of the lower floor served as the office for the Addison Township Clerk for more than 40 years.

During the summer of 2000, the Addison Historical Museum, which had been located in Addison's village hall for 24 years, moved to the former Balzer residence.  There you will find a variety of artifacts, documents, and photos focusing on the history of Addison, as well as numerous items of general historical interest.  This museum is open to the publics on Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., except for holidays.  During the months of June, July, and August, the museum is also open on Wednesdays from noon until 3:00 p.m.
