During his tenure, the Village has received three bond rating upgrades (from A to AA to AA+), and has been a leader in community relations, intergovernmental cooperation, and in the use of technology. The Village has also pursued an extensive program of public improvements, including $30 million in flood control work, $47 million in new and remodeled public buildings, and tens of millions in numerous utility, roadway and other public improvements. In addition, the Village has pursued extensive residential and commercial redevelopment activities, which are remaking the look of the community. In 2002, Addison was only the second municipal government in the State of Illinois to receive the Commitment to Excellence (Bronze Award) from Illinois Performance Excellence (formerly the Lincoln Foundation.) Illinois Performance Excellence reviews organizations for performance and organizational excellence, and uses a rating system which is similar to the Malcolm Baldridge National Quality Award.
