The Village Manager has overall responsibility for this policy and maintains reporting and monitoring procedures.  Applicants for Employment and/or Employees’ questions or concerns regarding this policy, or violation thereof, should be referred to the Village Manager, the Director of Human Resources/Risk Management or the Illinois Department of Human Rights. Complaints are investigated immediately and handled as confidentially as possible. The Village ensures that applicants for employment and employees following this complaint procedure are protected against retaliation. Appropriate disciplinary action will be taken against any employee violating this policy.

Applicants for employment who successfully take and pass any examination or other screening method utilized by the Village of Addison are eligible for an interview; they are not, however, guaranteed an interview. Furthermore, those who are interviewed for a position are not guaranteed employment with the Village of Addison. 

In order to be eligible for hire, applicants must take and pass all required written exams, background checks, pre-employment drug/alcohol test including a physical, and if applicable, submit to a psychological exam.  Applicants must also submit to a personal interview.  Failure to meet all of the pre-employment requirements of the Village of Addison may disqualify an individual from employment with the Village of Addison.

Employee Benefits

The Village of Addison offers a very competitive compensation package to its full-time and part-time employees.  All full-time employees have the choice of joining one of three PPO or one HMO medical plans.  One of the three PPO plans includes a High Deductible Health Plan with a Health Savings Account, partially funded by the Village.  Full-time employees can also choose a standard or enhanced vision and dental plan, as well as various additional benefits related to life and AD&D insurance.

Full-time, and some qualifying part-time, employees will be enrolled in the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund (with the exception of sworn personnel of the Police Department.)  Full-time employees will also be provided term life insurance and have the option of utilizing ICMA-RC, the Village's deferred compensation plan.

How Do I Apply for a Position?

The Village has made strong efforts to attract female and minority personnel, and plans to continue those same efforts in order to attain a representative workforce.

The Village attracts applicants by publicizing job opportunities to all members of the working community, with certain public outlets intended to target groups that might be underutilized and/or to target a specialized professional group that corresponds with the position the Village is recruiting to fill.  Furthermore , and depending on the position, the Village may place position announcements in newsletters (i.e., ICMA, ILCMA< APWA, GFOA, etc.,) and in local newspapers (i.e., Daily Herald, Sun Times, Tribune, Hoy, Addison Independent, etc.,) and on the internet (i.e., Monster.com, Blueline.com, Indeed.com, etc.)

People interested in applying for employment with the Village have many options from which to choose, as the following illustrates:

Applicants may apply for Village employment by coming to the Village Hall and picking up an application form from the information desk located on the lower level of the Village Hall. Applicants can also obtain a form in the Administration Office. Applications can be filled out there or brought home and returned at a later date, to:

The Human Resources Division does not administer the application/testing process for patrol officers. The process is governed under the rules developed by the Addison Board of Police Commissioners. Said Commission oversees the recruitment and selection of patrol officers.
