Engineering The Engineering
Division, under the supervision of the Village Engineer, is
responsible for the planning, design, and construction of
Village owned streets, storm sewer, sanitary sewer and water
distribution and supply systems. Additionally, the division's
staff is responsible for traffic engineering, inspection of
privately developed building sites, subdivisions and planned
unit developments.
Private Development Projects
Engineering reviews plans and performs construction
inspections of privately funded development projects such as
residential, commercial and industrial subdivisions, and
commercial and industrial real estate developments. Many
developments require the extension of the Village's
infrastructure systems such as water and sanitary sewer mains,
roads and streets, and drainage structures to serve the
development. These infrastructure systems are designed and
constructed by the developer after review and permit issuance by
Engineering.
Engineering plan reviews are performed for all exterior
aspects of site development, utility, grading, drainage, parking
and other site improvements related to new construction and/or
redevelopment. All approved plans must adhere to Village
Subdivision Control and Standard Specifications codes. To ensure
compliance, inspections are performed by the engineering staff
during various phases of construction.
Additional Engineering Resources
- Village Utility Locations: Water distribution facilities,
sanitary and storm sewer atlas sheets may be viewed at Village
Hall in the offices of the Engineering Division.
- Floodway and Flood Plain Maps: The Village of Addison is a
member of the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP). Paper
copies of the Federal Emergency Management Agency's (FEMA)
Floodplain Insurance Rate Maps (FIRMs) and flood insurance
studies are on file and may be viewed at Village Hall in the
offices of the Engineering Division.
- Storm water Drainage & Flooding Studies: Many areas of
the Village are susceptible to flooding during significant
storm events. Various flood studies of the community are
available and may be viewed at Village Hall in the offices of
the Engineering Division. Property owners may contact the
Engineering Division with any questions regarding storm water
drainage of their or neighboring properties.
- Village Infrastructure Maintenance and Improvement
Projects: The Engineering Division is responsible for the
planning, design, construction, and administration for many of
the capital improvement projects involving the Village's
infrastructure (streets and alleys, storm and sanitary sewers,
and water transmission facilities). The Village's general
policy is to maintain the existing infrastructure as it
presently exists. Features such as street curb and gutter,
sidewalks, and street lighting are not typically installed
where they currently do not exist without a financial
commitment from the benefiting property owners.
Engineering
also maintains official Village maps and oversees the work performed under the
Village's Annual Roadway Maintenance Program.
