Garbage Pickup

Weekly garbage service is provided by the Village’s contracted waste hauler, Republic Services. The Village is divided into five sections, with each receiving unlimited garbage pickup on a different day, Monday through Friday. In the event of a weekday holiday (New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas only) garbage service will be delayed one day for the rest of that week.

If you experience solid waste, recycling or landscape waste pickup problems, or have questions, contact Republic Services at 708-345-7050.
If further attention is warranted, contact the Village's Public Works Environmental Services Division at 630-279-2140.

Republic Services supplies, at no charge to residents, waste toters. These two-wheeled carts should be placed at the curb with metal bar facing the curb. Recyclable and landscape waste should not be placed in these carts. Use of these carts is not mandatory, and additional waste will continue to be picked up.

If you decide to use your own garbage containers, they should be no smaller than 10 gallons and no bigger than 30 gallons. Containers should be equipped with suitable handles and possess close-fitting covers when plastic bags are not in use. Containers or bags should never exceed 50 pounds or the hauler is not obligated to remove such excessive waste.

Refuse may be placed at curbside no earlier than 6 p.m. the day prior to collection, and containers must be retrieved no later than midnight following the collection day.

Household Appliances

Residents placing large household appliances at the curb are encouraged to contact the Village’s waste hauler, Republic Services, at 708-345-7050 and inform the Customer Service of the item. The call to Republic will expedite the removal process and ensure that such materials are picked up on the regular garbage day.

Large household appliances include: refrigerators, air conditioners, freezers, washing machines and dryers.

Batteries

Batteries Plus Bulbs at 481 Roosevelt Rd., in Glen Ellyn accepts household batteries.

Motor vehicle batteries were banned from Illinois landfills in 1990. Since then, many auto supply stores have provided a disposal outlet for these batteries.

Accepted at this warehouse location: wet lead acid batteries (found in cars, trucks, motorcycles, etc.), lithium batteries (found in cell phones, lap tops, etc.), lead cadmium based batteries, sealed lead acid batteries (found in computer back up systems, fire alarms, etc.), wet/dry nickel cadmium/Ni-Cd (found in cordless tools, two-way radios, and other rechargeables) and nickel metal hydride batteries.

Any questions regarding drop-off at this facility should be direct to the CBR/Batteries Plus Accounting Dept: 630-628-9588.

Automobile Tires

Automobile tires can no longer be removed from curbside by Republic Services because they are no longer accepted at landfills. Old tires should be brought to any tire retailer, including Krage’s Service Center, 191 E. Lake St. Retailers charge customers a marginal fee ranging from $1 to $2.50 per tire for proper disposal.

Dumpster Rental

Rental of dumpsters must be done through the Village of Addison's contracted waste hauler, Republic Services. To arrange for this, call 708-345-7050.
