Services for Private Development and Village Projects
The Village of Addison’s Engineering Division supports both private development and public infrastructure projects throughout the community.
For private development, our team reviews site plans and conducts inspections for residential, commercial, and industrial projects—including subdivisions and real estate developments. Many of these projects require extending Village infrastructure such as water and sanitary sewer mains, roads, and storm drainage systems. These improvements are designed and built by the developer, following Engineering’s review and permit approval.
We evaluate all aspects of site development, including utilities, grading, drainage, parking, and other improvements related to new construction or redevelopment. Approved plans must comply with the Village’s Subdivision Control Ordinance and Standard Specifications. To ensure compliance, our engineers and engineering technicians perform inspections throughout the construction process.
For Village-owned property, the Engineering Division oversees the planning, design, and construction of municipal infrastructure systems. This includes streets, storm sewers, sanitary sewers, and water distribution and supply systems. Our staff also manages capital improvement projects, coordinates with contractors, and ensures that all work meets Village standards and regulatory requirements.
Whether supporting private development or enhancing public infrastructure, our goal is to ensure safe, efficient, and sustainable improvements that benefit the entire community.
Resources & Services
The Village of Addison’s Engineering Division provides a range of services to support both public infrastructure and private development. Below are key resources available to residents, developers, and property owners:
📍 Village Utility Maps: Water distribution facilities, along with sanitary and storm sewer atlas sheets, are available for public viewing at Village Hall in the Engineering Division offices.
🌊 Floodway & Floodplain Maps: As a member of the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP), the Village maintains paper copies of FEMA’s Flood Insurance Rate Maps (FIRMs) and flood insurance studies. These documents can be reviewed at Village Hall through the Engineering Division.
🌧️ Stormwater Drainage & Flooding Studies: Several areas in Addison are susceptible to flooding during major storm events. The Engineering Division houses a collection of flood studies available for public review. Property owners with questions about drainage on their property—or neighboring sites—are encouraged to contact Engineering staff for assistance.
🛠️ Village Infrastructure Maintenance & Capital Improvements: Engineering oversees the planning, design, construction, and administration of capital improvement projects involving Village-owned infrastructure, including streets, alleys, storm and sanitary sewers, and water transmission systems. The Village’s general policy is to maintain existing infrastructure as-is. New features—such as curbs, gutters, sidewalks, or street lighting —are typically not added unless the benefiting property owners contribute financially.
🗺️ Official Maps & Roadway Maintenance: The Engineering Division also maintains official Village maps and manages work performed under the Annual Roadway Maintenance Program, ensuring safe and reliable transportation infrastructure across the community.
